Jinja Secondary School wins 2017 Copa Cola

Jinja Secondary School has won the 2017 Copa Cola football championship that concluded in Masaka today.

They beat favourites St Mary’s Kitende 4-2 after penalty shots. Normal time of the final game at Kitovu had ended 1-1.

In the semifinals, Jinja Secondary School emerged from a goal down to eject Nakaseke International recovered from a goal down to force 1-1 draw and penalty shots which they won 3-1.

In the second semifinal, St Mary’s Kitende overcame a depleted Kibuli SS 2-1 to advance to the final.


Jinja secondary school victory means they will join St Mary’s Kitende and Kibuli as Uganda representatives at the 2017 East African secondary school football championships at St Joseph College, Layibi in Northern Uganda district of Gulu.

Vipers SC new Coach vows to deliver to keep job

Da Costa Duarte Jorge Miguel is the new head coach of Vipers Sports Club on a three-year contract.

Vipers SC announced 47year old Miguel, who played for FC Porto among other clubs was appointed on Tuesday.

Vipers SC president Lawrence Mulindwa said that arrival of the coach was appropriate with their growth as a club.

“We are expanding in form of infrastructure and physically. So we found it necessary to expand and strengthen our technical wing with an experienced coach like Jorge Da Costa,” Mulindwa said while unveiling the coach.

“He is very much interested in youth systems. It is not the first time he has been to Uganda. We have been patient because we interviewed him five years ago,” he added.

Miguel will be assisted by Richard Wasswa and Edward Golola. Their first assignment together will be Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash with against Platinum Stars FC.

Miguel said he will want to perform to ensure he keeps the job.

“I am very glad to be here and be coach of Vipers. I am no longer just the Portuguese guy, I am coach of Vipers. I want to work very hard from first day to win. I have to do my job not be here for one, two three months,” Miguel.

NCS congratulates KCCA FC for winning Azam Premier League

National Council of Sports (NCS) has congratulated KCCA FC for winning the Azam Uganda Premier League 2016-2017.

NCS general secretary Nicholas Muramagi said that the club players, and officials and coach Mike Mutebi in particular deserved recognition the victory because the team has exhibited exceptional performances in the last two years.

“KCCA has had good performances in both local and international competitions. It is not by chance especially if you follow activities at the club. I urge all other sports clubs to emulate them,” Muramagi said.

For KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi winning the second successive Azam Uganda Premier League trophy with two games to end of the 2016-2017 season and reaching CAF Confederations Cup group stage disproves his critics.

KCCA retained the Azam Uganda Premier League title with a 2-0 win over Lweza at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Tuesday evening.


It is their 12th title of the league. The Kasasiro boys as they are commonly reffered to have won the league in 1976, 1977, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1991, 1997, 2007-2008, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2015-2016, 2016-2017.

NCS officials to discuss Ugandan football development with FIFA's Infantino

NCS officials will feature prominently as FIFA president Gianni Infantino meets HE President Museveni at State House Entebbe on Friday.

Led by the chairman Bosco Onyik the officials will be part of discussions football development involving government of Uganda and Infantino in State House.

Infantino will also meet various football stakeholders at Serena Hotel, Hotel Africana and Ivys Hotel in Kampala before returning to Zurich on Saturday afternoon.

He will watch an U-17 football match between KCCA FC and Lweza at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

It is from there that Infantino will interact with selected current and retired FIFA referees and Uganda Cranes players.
