Uganda to start CHAN qualifiers in first round

These players could form CHAN team

Uganda Cranes journey in the forthcoming CHAN 2018 finals in Kenya will start in first round instead of the preliminaries.

Uganda will play the winner between South Sudan and Somalia. South Sudan and Somalia face each other in preliminary round.

Uganda Cranes will then play the winner in that match in the first round. If the CECAFA kings advance, they will play the winner between Tanzania and Rwanda in the second round.

Preliminary round of the qualifiers take place in April 2017 before the first and second rounds in July and August respectively.

CAF has drawn the countries in zones (North, West A, West B, Central, Central East and Southern) depending on their locations.

Uganda Cranes has played at all the previous CHAN editions held in Sudan (2012), South Africa (2014) and Rwanda (2016).

Kenya as the host nation will not take part in the qualifiers.

CHAN is Africa’s second biggest football competition meant for players who are playing in their respective domestic leagues only.
