World Para-Athletics Championships gold medalist David Emong is not surprised with his achievement at the global championship.

Emong won gold in the men’s 1500m T46 final on Saturday evening at the ongoing 8th World Para-Athletics Championships in London, United Kingdom.

Emong won with a new personal best time of 3:58.36.

“I was expecting to win because I have been training at altitude with Uganda’s champions Moses Kipsiro and Stephen Kiprotich.

It was again Uganda’s first ever gold medal at the particular competition.

Emong won Uganda’s first ever silver medal at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Uganda Cranes players training

A 23-man Uganda Cranes squad is expected to play a Western Select side in a Western Region tour of country at Kabale stadium on Saturday.

While the tour is meant to take the national football team closer to local football fans, Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredejovic the trip will also act as preparation for team against South Sudan football team.

Uganda travels to play South Sudan in 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier match at Juba City Stadium on July 14 before hosting the return leg at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala on July 22.

The national squad that is composed three goalkeepers, eight defenders, eight midfielders and four strikers is already in Kabale where they had their final training session at the Kabale stadium Friday evening.

FUFA plans to observe a minute of silence and have the players wear black armbands in honour of its former FUFA Chairman John Ssebaana and former treasurer Michael Okiror.

Both football administrators passed away on Monday. Okiror was in Kumi on Thursday while Ssebaana will be buried on Saturday.

Uganda Cranes and team captain Dennis Onyango is the Nile Special-USPA sports personality of the year 2016.

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) members voted the Cranes skipper the best after his fantastic performances that helped the Uganda Cranes return to the AFCON finals after 39 years of absence.

Onyango was crowned by the chief guest and first son Maj. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba flanked by National Council of Sports vice chairman technical Hajji Zubair Gawliwango at the USPA dinner at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Friday night.

Onyango also the footballer of the year 2016 beat athlete David Emong and rugby player Phillip Wokorach to the overall award.

Onyango said that his victory was as a result of hard work on the Cranes team, his club Mamelodi Sundown which competed at the final of the CAF Champions League and; support from FUFA and his family members.

“I dedicate one of the awards to my wife for her support to me. I have won the awards but I believe it is because everyone on the Cranes team, FUFA and Sundown worked hard,” Onyango said after receiving the award from Maj. Gen. Kainerugaba.

Uganda She Cranes have been crowned champions of the Africa Netball Champions 2017 after a week of continental competition at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.

The team received their trophy from the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga after they won their last game of the competition against Zambia 67-50 on Thursday night.

The match was watched by hundreds of sports fans who for the first time in a long while packed the indoor stadium to capacity. The competition attracted Ugandans from all walks of life.

The championship had attracted national teams from Malawi, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia all of whom the hosts Uganda She Cranes managed to win against.

Uganda managed to beat Botswana 72-29 in the opening match of the championship before overcoming Namibia 69-31, Malawi 66-43 then won 69-31 against Namibia, beat Zimbabwe 61-45.

They crowned the championship with 67-50 action packed win against Zambia.

Focus in the game shifts to the World U-21 Netball Championship that will be in Botswana next August. NCS officials have declared their support for the Uganda team which they are helping to prepare for the competition.

National Council of Sports (NCS) has applauded parliamentarian in the 10th Parliament of Uganda for, agreeing to contribute Sh500,000 each towards the welfare of netballers who won the Africa Netball championship at the MTN Arena, Lugogo recently.

The Parliament of Uganda has a total of 431 lawmakers who will contribute from their monthly remunerations to the purchase of a coaster for the She Cranes.

The balance of the money will be shared among the players and officials of She Cranes who participated in winning the Africa Championships.

The Parliament of Uganda is expected to raise a total of at least Sh215m.

NCS assistant general secretary in charge of administration Dr. Ogwel Benard Patrick said that the decision by the parliamentarians was welcome because it encourages not only netball but other sports disciplines to excel.

Dr. Ogwel said that National Council of Sports has generously contributed up to 90 per cent financial help towards the She Cranes and Junior team - She Pearls that is competing at the World Cup in Botswana before government added.

“We (NCS) is very happy with the gesture from Parliament. I only pray that such gestures are formalized so that in future many more federations/associations that excel in their sport benefit,” Dr. Ogwel said.

The She Cranes won all their five games at the 2017 Africa Netball Championship held at the Lugogo Indoor stadium with speaker of parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga as the chief guest in the last game against Zimbabwe.

Uganda defeated Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia in the continental championship to lift their maiden Africa title.

National Council of Sports has congratulated the National Boxing team –the Bombers for their achievement at the African Confederation Boxing Championships that has just concluded in Congo Brazzaville.The Bombers won three medals from the competition which means the winners qualify for the forthcoming 19th AIBA World Boxing Championships due in Hamburg, Germany in August.

NCS general secretary Nicholas Muramagi together with his chairman Bosco Onyik said that the team’s achievement encourages Council to keep supporting them.

“We congratulate the entire team and the particular winners for their effort. As Council we want to associate with winners and that is why we shall continue supporting those who win like you (boxers),” Onyik said.

While flagging off the team for the championship from Lugogo, Muramagi had promised that NCS will offer whoever boxer qualifies for the World Championships the necessary support for them to camp in better hotel and train from a more comfortable gymnasium as they prepare to represent Uganda.

NCS facilitated the Bombers training for the Africa Championship with accommodation at Lugogo among other things and also bought for the boxers air tickets to travel to Brazzaville.

Welterweight boxer Muzamir Kakande won gold while Bantamweight Geoffrey Kakeeto and super heavyweight David Ayit picked silver medals at the continental competition which was also qualifier for World Championship.
